Online GP Consultations

At Saga, our HealthPlans offer convenient and unlimited access to medical consultations. Whether you prefer online or telephone appointments, the Saga GP Service ensures you can talk to a qualified doctor from anywhere in the world. All you need is a telephone, computer, smartphone, or tablet.

When you arrange a virtual GP appointment, our online doctors can assist you with a wide range of medical issues, including:

  • Cold and flu
  • Chest infections
  • Ear infections
  • Joint pain
  • Back pain
  • Asthma
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Mental health issues

 

After your appointment, our online doctor will include any necessary prescriptions in their consultation notes. If you are accessing the service from outside of the UK our GP may not be able to prescribe you medication, but they will be able to advise you on the next steps you should take.

In case of a medical emergency (such as chest pain, sudden breathing difficulties, heavy bleeding, or a suspected stroke), please call 999 or go to the nearest A&E.

How do our Virtual GP Appointments work?

A virtual GP appointment is almost identical to an in-person appointment. During the appointment, you discuss the same things as you would during a regular face-to-face check-up with a fully qualified GP. The key difference is that it takes place over the phone or online.

What's the benefit of an online GP appointment?

There are many benefits to online GP appointments, including:

  • Less travel: You can have your appointment from home – there’s no need to leave. This is especially beneficial if your injury or illness makes it difficult for you to leave home.
  • See doctors sooner: Traditional local GP visits often involve long waiting times. However, with our 24/7 online service, you’ll receive an online GP consultation much more quickly.
  • No waiting rooms: Waiting rooms at doctors’ offices are often crowded with unwell individuals, leading to the spread of viruses and germs. Online GP services allow you to avoid waiting rooms altogether, making them safer for vulnerable people. This was established during the COVID-19 pandemic.

What technology or devices do I need to access the online GP service?

To attend an online GP appointment with the Saga GP Service, you’ll need:

  • Either a smartphone, laptop, computer or tablet
  • Internet access
  • A quiet area so that you can have a comfortable conversation with a GP

If you choose a telephone appointment, you’ll need a phone – it can either be a mobile phone or a landline.

What if I can't do an online video consultation?

If you can’t participate in an online video consultation or are uncomfortable with it, you can send a message to a doctor. Feel free to include any relevant images. Our doctors will respond by the next working day.
