Unlike some other travel insurance providers, our travel insurance policies have no upper age limit, so if you’re aged over 65 and looking for high levels of cover and service, why not try Saga?
We provide cover for many pre-existing medical conditions, which means if you suffer a flare up while you’re away, you’ll be insured from up to £2 million to £20 million for emergency medical treatment and if you are taken ill before you travel, you’ll be covered for the cost of cancellation too, from up to £2,500 to £20,000.
Defaqto has rated Saga Standard and Saga Plus Travel Insurance as 5 Star. This means that the cover provided is top quality. Our insurance is specifically designed for people over the age of 50 and has no upper age limits.
Travel cover features include:
When you’re deciding which travel insurance to buy, it’s important to compare the cover offered to make sure you’re getting the right insurance for your needs.
Saga Travel Insurance can also cover you for a range of other events such as missed departure* and lost passports. You’ll be covered for most eventualities, leaving you to enjoy your holiday.
*Missed departure is not included with Saga Essential.
Single trip insurance is ideal for a short break or a longer trip. Saga Standard and Saga Plus policyholders are covered for a trip up to 120 days long (or 180 days in Europe) – ideal for that round-the-world cruise you’ve been planning or your winter long-stay escape to warmer climes. Saga Essential offers cover for trips up to 30 days.
You can adjust your single trip travel insurance to reduce the limit for cancellation cover and to either increase or decrease your excess to £0 on Saga Standard and Saga Plus. The excess is set at £150 per claim on Saga Essential.
Our single trip insurance is ideal for those over the age of 50, especially considering you can also add your family and friends who are under 50 to your policy too.
Annual multi-trip insurance covers you for any number of trips within a 12 month period.
Each trip can be up to 45 days long (extensions are available if you’re going away for longer) and your total time away must not be more than 180 days in each policy year.
Annual multi-trip insurance is ideal if you’re likely to take multiple holidays each year – it can work out better value for money. It also means that cancellation cover is already in place should you decide to take a last-minute holiday or city break.
As with our single trip cover, our annual cover also lets you add your family and friends who are under 50 to your policy.
We are proud to offer five-star treatment every day with Saga Travel Insurance – Saga Plus and Saga Standard are both Defaqto 5 Star rated.
Saga Travel Insurance provides cover for many pre-existing medical conditions – so there’s no need to miss out on your holidays. You may also be able to take out annual insurance that covers your pre-existing conditions, so you can travel whenever you like.
A Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) entitles you to access state-provided healthcare while on holiday in a European Economic Area country or Switzerland. It gives you the right to receive the same standard of care that a citizen of the country you’re visiting would receive, and at the same cost.
However, a GHIC will not cover you for all the medical costs that you could incur if you have to fly home to continue medical care, nor do they cover you for lost baggage, cancellation, or any of the other benefits of travel insurance. You might be surprised to learn that a GHIC is not valid on cruises.
Your GHIC should be seen as complementary to your travel insurance, not a substitute. You can apply for an GHIC on the NHS website. The card is free to obtain from the NHS, so be aware of websites trying to charge a fee.
All Saga Travel Insurance policyholders can benefit from our travel assistance helpline.
Call the number any time of the day or night and you will reach an English-speaking adviser who can help you out with all sorts of travel problems – before, during and after your holiday.
Whether you need visa and immunisation advice, help on what to do if your passport gets stolen or advice on lost luggage, we’re here to help.
Love an active holiday? You’ll be pleased to know that if you take out Saga Travel Insurance, you’ll be covered for over 40 different activities as standard such as cycling, hiking, scuba diving, wind-surfing and hot air ballooning.
Looking for ski travel insurance? We also offer a winter sports add-on that covers you for things such as piste closure, and protects you in case your own or your hired equipment is damaged or lost.
On the other hand, if you’d prefer nothing more than to kick back and relax on your holiday, you can rest assured that we’ll have you covered.
With a Saga Travel Insurance policy, cancellation cover starts from the date you take out the policy or book the trip. In the unfortunate event that you have to cancel your holiday, our policy can offer cancellation cover from up to £2,500 to £20,000 . Maintaining continuous cover with an annual policy could give you the freedom to book last minute trips.
If you are likely to be taking more than one trip a year or you are travelling for more than 30 consecutive days then you may find that our annual multi-trip travel insurance policy is more cost effective than taking out a separate single trip policy each time you travel.
The advantage of annual multi-trip insurance is that cancellation cover is already in place should you want to go on a last minute holiday or city break.
If you only take the occasional trip, whether in the UK or overseas, you may find a single trip policy more suitable. Our single trip travel insurance is for trips up to 180 for Europe, 120 everywhere else (30 days for Saga Essential) and covers cancellations, medical expenses and much more.
We are able to extend up to 90 days if you are travelling anywhere outside the USA, Canada, Mexico or any Caribbean Islands. If travelling to these countries the maximum duration we can extend to is 60 days.
If you need cover for longer, our Saga Standard and Saga Plus single trip policies have limits up to 180 days in Europe and 120 days for trips elsewhere.
No, our policy covers money and baggage as standard within the overall price of the policy.
However, you can now opt for our Essential single trip travel insurance if you're looking to cover just the basics.
Unfortunately we would not be able to provide you with cover - our policies only cover UK residents.
Travel insurance for pre-existing medical conditions provides cover for those who suffer with an illness or injury. Saga Travel Insurance provides cover from up to £2 million to £20 million for emergency medical treatment should you be taken ill while abroad.
This means you can enjoy your time abroad without having to worry about the financial implications of any illness or medical emergency abroad.

At Saga we can cover many medical conditions under our travel insurance policy. We will ask a series of questions to assess if cover can be offered.
